This place is honestly one of the most unique places i’ve ever visited in my life!!!! The area looks like something out of a fairy tale with it’s cave dwellings, rock formations & fairy chimneys. The best way to see the unique topography is from a hot air balloon! Highly recommend it. We flew into the Kayseri airport from Istanbul on Turkish Air (1 hr. 25 min. flight) and booked a roundtrip private transport from the Kayseri airport to the hotel (@ 1 hour) with Gorgeous Tours for @ 50 euros each way. Highly recommend Gorgeous Tours, we used them for tours and transport, always on time, great guides and they surprised us with a cake for my husband’s birthday. https://www.gorgeousturkeytours.com/
HOTEL:
*Cappadocia Cave Resort & Spa– We stayed here because we are always drawn to the SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) of the world; however, we were not impressed with this hotel. The location is good and we had a large room with an amazing view; however, the breakfast and service were poor and not up to SLH standards.

indoor pool
*Argos– This is the other hotel that was recommended and we wished we had stayed here.
SIGHTS:
*Hike the area with the animal shaped hoodoos in Devrent (Imagination) Valley (about 2 miles long)
*Uchisar Castle (can walk from CCR hotel)- with its multi-storied caves (terracotta workshops for 5000 years) Only 3 TL to get in
*Out of the more than 25 cave churches, Tokali Kilise is the most famous with excellent painted murals
*Kaymakli (30 minutes from hotel) is the largest underground city in the area. The Hitties used it 4000 years ago which could house up to 5000 people. It was used to escape harsh winters and wild animals, later Christians used the underground city to escape persecution from the Romans. Also Derinkuyu is another underground city but further from the center.
*Hot Air Balloon ride–Butterfly Balloons is most popular and seems most reasonable priced (@140 euros pp). Also Royal, Voyager and Urgup are other top rated and safe companies. Butterfly was booked so we went with Urgup (@180 euros pp). DON’T MISS THIS EXPERIENCE!
*Goreme Open Air Museum– UNESCO world Heritage Site (visit the dark church)
*Pasabag– to see the fairy chimneys
*ATV tour (Bridge of the world)
** Our itinerary to fit all of the above into 2 days was the following:
