Udaipur is known as the “Venice of the east” or the “City of the lakes” due to its location on the Pichola Lake.

HOTEL:

*Taj Lake Palace- I can’t say enough about this luxurious, floating, white, marble hotel!! Again, Taj hotels don’t disappoint! The James Bond film, Octopussy, was filmed here along with many other famous movies.  This place has 7 star service, starting from the boat ride from the mainland to the hotel, the shower of rose petals and welcome drink upon arrival, complimentary yoga on a terrace overlooking the lake, a beautiful Indian performance before dinner and a man fanning the pigeons away while eating breakfast al fresco in the garden.  It has it all…………I would come to Udaipur just to experience this hotel.

SIGHTS:

* City Palace– A palace perched on a hill overlooking Udaipur that holds a museum, galleries and beautiful architecture.  Across from the City Palace is Durbar Hall that is now a venue for large functions.  The Crystal Gallery which overlooks Durbar Hall holds the largest private collection of crystal in the world.  Next have lunch at the Fateh Prakash Hotel sunset terrace which is overlooking the lake.  This could take a full day.

*Jag Mandir-Take a boat to this 17th century picturesque palace set on an island in Lake Pichola.  The palace has a spa, cafe, restaurant, museum and beautiful gardens.  It’s a nice place to have a drink at sunset.
